Emotional Detox for Anxiety in Dating and Relationships
What is an Emotional Detox©?
I went through a terrible betrayal, and I know what it is to be in an emotional space and afraid and my self esteem was nothing. I had to build myself up again. I wrote this book, because I found no one was diving into the topic of emotional detox. Our emotions are not the problem. It’s how we react to the emotions, which leads to stress and more. Our reactions suppress our emotions. When your food has chemicals, it’s not as nutritious for you. It can cause inflammations in our body. It’s the same with our emotions.
Why are so many people emotionally reactive?
It’s from evolution [run away from that tiger or you’ll get killed!], and it’s also because of conscious and unconscious memories. Some are stored in our bodies when we didn’t allow ourselves to feel. For example, anger. If you’re always angry or frustrated, it’s probably related to an earlier part in your life when you reacted to it. Be aware of your patterns of reactivity which can be healed.
Emotional Detox creates a foundation for people. They look at how they get triggered. That means there’s something in me that is coming up to be recognized and felt. Most of us have been trained to believe feeling painful. It’s not. We often confuse reacting and feeling. Anger is often a reaction to not wanting to feel.
I came to the conclusion that there’s only one emotion, which is love. When you learn to process your emotions, you lower your guards. We often attract people with similar patterns.
Emotions are what we are born with, reactivity is what we learn here.
How can someone overcome anxiety in dating?
It’s a daily process to work on your emotions. Be present. Pay attention. You might miss what is working. We get so used to expecting and knowing what others will say and do. Be curious. You’ll see little shifts in your day. You weren’t as triggered as you were in the past. You become more resilient. Your tolerance levels go up. Your energy is strong so you can sustain and hold the vibration of love as long as you can. You feel different and choose differently.
We all get rejected in some shape or form. You have to get out there and allow yourself to process the hard stuff.
What is your CLEANSE© Method?
- C: Clear reactivity. Prepare your body for feelings. Get centered. Be present and connect.
- L: Look inward. Dive into what feelings are coming up for you. Identify the feelings without rerunning your stories.
- E: Emit. Produce sound, like mantras.
- A: Activate joy. What are you choosing to create?
- N: Nourish. Allow yourself to sit in the vibration of where you are.
- S: Surrender. Repeat statements out loud.
- E: Ease. Fully integrated inside of you.
What are your final words of advice for anyone who wants to go on their last first date?
It’s about authenticity and being yourself. Know yourself by processing your feelings on a regular basis. If you’re a people-pleaser, process that, because it takes you away from you being you. Be honest. Be open. Do what you love. It’s the best way to meet someone.
