After a breakup, your self-worth can suffer greatly. Take these small steps every day to reclaim your self-esteem and build your confidence.

Reclaiming your self-esteem after a breakup can be one of the hardest challenges you face in your life. Your happiness and peace of mind revolve around your self-esteem, which is why it is so vital to not only reclaim your self-esteem after a breakup, but to retain it.

Life will often find a way to knock you down, and the way you respond to failure is crucial to your happiness and wellbeing. A bad breakup after a long-term relationship is very painful. Some people react badly, while some channel their pain to channel into something positive.

Realize you are worth much more than this breakup. Get angry about it if you must, and use that anger to set out and prove your worth.

Unfortunately, there is no magic formula or pill to improve your confidence. It’s something we must do for ourselves. Self-esteem stems from being proud of our achievements, so the only way to reclaim your self-esteem is to take ACTION.

Here are a few ways to improve your self-esteem both mentally and physically, from our friends over at the dating site, Flirtio.

To regain your self-worth, you need to be self-disciplined. Close your eyes, and envision yourself in the future, doing something you’d like to accomplish. Imagine the feeling of pride and happiness you would feel if you accomplished this goal. When you open your eyes, plan your way there. Create a calendar and add goals to take small steps to achieve your goal.

Example: You want to increase your water intake to 8 cups a day. As you can see in the graphic, drinking more water will make you healthier. Purchase a water bottle, grab a permanent marker, and measure 4 cups. Draw a line that says “3pm”. This will indicate that you’re halfway to your daily goal at 3 PM every day.

Take small steps every day to:

  • Drown out negativity
  • Exercise more
  • Drink more water
  • Stop comparing yourself to others
  • Be kinder to yourself and understand that everyone has breakups

And don’t forget to reward yourself when you’ve accomplished your goals. Before you know it, you’ll be back out there dating with a whole new approach to love. And the best part? Your self-esteem will be much higher, which makes you more confident. And confidence is sexy!
