It’s phenomenal when you look at the statistics that close to one in ten people have actually used online dating apps in today’s world. When you take a closer more granular look, the research also shows that triple the number of people have now made use of an online dating app in comparison to the number of people who did so just three years ago in 2013.
Badoo and Tinder are the mobile dating apps that lead the pack in terms of popularity; Badoo tends to dominate in terms of popularity in the Southern and Eastern Hemisphere areas, while Tinder seems to be more popular with people in the Northern Hemisphere (it’s not uniform, there there are slight variations).
The Rise of Dating Apps
Other larger countries, like China and Russia, have a preference for dating apps that are typically only used in their countries. In China for example, the most popular dating app is “Momo” and in Russia the dating app of choice is called “Frim”.
Younger millennials tend to be the most ardent users of mobile dating apps, specifically those people aged between 18 and 24. They make up 22% of those using mobile dating apps and interestingly, they are also the biggest users of mobile dating websites.
Societal change has also occurred, in that the more casual relationships developed online are now very much acceptable and the norm. Previously for the most part, people met their partner(s) in a social and physical situations, but the Internet and app technology have facilitated a huge shift in behavior.
