In this video, I share my best tips on how to assess a potential mate and find out if he’s a keeper, or it’s time to walk away.

After you’ve been dating a while, you may find yourself ready to settle down with a long-term mate. But how can you determine if this person is suitable for you? In this short video interview for Bottom Line, Inc., I uncover some of the red flags to look for in a potential mate.

First, take responsibility for yourself. Acknowledge what’s gone wrong in your past relationships so that you don’t make the same mistakes with a new partner. Know your core values and how they align with your potential partner’s. The way in which people fight also can be a red flag about the long-term health of a relationship. Find out how arguing in a certain way can even predict divorce!

It also can be helpful to look at how your potential mate treats others in his or her life, particularly other family members. And finally, don’t expect that you’ll be able to convince your partner to change.
