Self-Awareness and Self-Acceptance Lead to Relationship Success

What got you started on your journey of writing and creating positive media?

I was running my family business, a golf center, for eleven years. I felt I was finished growing there. I had a strong feeling it was time to continue to grow and find what I needed to do.

I was out of balance at that time, and I wrote down five things that would keep me in balance. That list helped me. I expanded the list and wrote a book. I self-published it in 2009. It won a couple of awards, and I knew if I wanted to share my message, I’d have to step out of my comfort zone [and overcome my fear of speaking in public]. I started to feel alive and excited about life.

What was on that list of the five ways to keep yourself in balance daily?

  1. Get enough sleep
  2. Drink enough water
  3. Creativity
  4. Exercise
  5. Allow quiet time

What were some of the other things you did to step out of your comfort zone?

I knew I had to get my message out. When I was three, I told my mom I was put here to inspire people. I felt like I had no choice! First thing I did was to move to Reno, Nevada. I took speech classes, attended Toastmasters, ran a workshop on Balance, and created a 15 state book-signing tour.

I said yes to many opportunities. It was humbling. I took an acting class, and I had a dream that felt important. It was the story of a guitar man. I hired a filmmaker and we made the film. It did really well at film festivals. It woke me up to putting out more positive media. I then pursued an acting career.

You have a new book out, “Habits For Success – Inspired Ideas to Help You Soar.” What are some of the habits?

Balance is so important. It lays the foundation for everything else. Letting go of judgment is also a big one. Be easy on yourself is another chapter. I had to learn to love and accept myself during the last ten year journey. We all share this journey.

Another chapter is to continue to learn and grow. Everything is energy. We need to keep on moving. Happily expect the unexpected. There are no rules. We’re taught it has to be a certain way. But, there are no rules. Expectations can get in your way.

How might some of the “habits” in your book help someone find more success in dating?

Be vulnerable. Acting has given me the gift of feeling more. It also taught me to get out of my head and be present and listen. Those are very important tools. And being present is such a gift to give to another. Someone can’t live up to the pressure of who you think they should be. Knowing your ‘why’ helps you potentially make better decisions in dating.

What’s your advice for our listeners who want to go on their last first date?

Be yourself to free yourself. The more you love and accept yourself, you won’t be dating to fill a void. You’ll be more patient. You’ll look for people who are a really good fit. You’ll go with the flow.
