Following are loosely transcribed highlights of our interview on Last First Date Radio.

Strategic Approaches to Starting New Relationships

1. What is the number one obstacle men tend to have problems with when approaching someone new?

Approach anxiety – getting up the nerve to strike up a conversation with someone new. Men don’t want to feel like they’re bothering someone or interrupting someone, especially if a woman is plugged into her headset on her phone. Men who want to have success in approaching a woman should show that they have a positive belief in themselves. Confidence makes you attractive.

Take Justin Beiber for example. He is successful with fans because he’s strong and confident. In spite of the bad things he’s done lately, he’s still “strong in his wrong”. It’s confidence that attracts your eyes and attention to him.

I teach my clients the Babe Ruth rule about dating. Babe Ruth was a baseball player in the golden era of baseball who had 714 home-runs. One thing about him holding the record was that he wasn’t always successful. He had 1,300 strikeouts. He wasn’t afraid to strike out because he knew he’d hit a home-run eventually. In dating, you’re not going to get a yes every time. But don’t be afraid of the no’s.

2. What do you teach men to help them gain confidence?

I teach guys to compartmentalize with the woman they’re going to meet. Chunk up the interaction into small stages. Stage 1: get to know her name. Stage 2: figure out if you have the same hobbies. Build the conversation slowly. And don’t forget her name!

3. What role does online dating now play in the mating process?

Online dating allows you to cast a much wider net. Our so-called 40-hour work week is much longer and more intense than it ever was. With much less time, you can check your online site on your lunch hour, on your way to work, whenever you have a little bit of time. Also, you can do it very inexpensively. There is a controlled cost, it’s efficient, and it’s far reaching. I highly recommend online dating.

Emeka and I discussed many other topics, including the art of seduction, why he manages CougarLife.com, and why being a cougar is not such a bad thing after all. Click here to listen to the show or download it and listen anytime you like!
