EP 539: Robert Manni – What Women Need to Know About Men

What do you see as the status of men in today’s culture?

It’s the best time to be a man, because men can be what they want, but they’re also unclear about how to be. Women are ascending quickly. Men don’t have great role models. Men are often still valued by their wallet and their position. It’s changing. Look inside and see what you can do better and spread more positive energy into the world.

How has masculinity changed from when you were dating in your twenties to today?

When I was dating before the internet, you had to approach a woman and have confidence and game. Now, it’s so easy to swipe left or right. This is great if you know how to work the online space. There’s a lost art of conversation and knowing how to lead and when to follow.

Men often don’t plan or make the first move. My advice for guys is be yourself and be respectful. Make the first move. Suggest the first date. Pick up the check the first time.

What do women need to know about men?

Keep the list of must-haves short and make them really important. Be open-minded because you might be missing out on someone great. If guys aren’t saying anything, it’s not necessarily an issue. If things are going well, he won’t say anything. If there’s an issue, he’ll probably bring it up. If he’s quiet, he’s not complaining. Couples can’t agree on everything, and it’s okay to have a different point of view.

Guys are more simple than women think. If it’s a good guy, what you see is what you get.

Don’t criticize men. Take a pause before saying something that might be taken the wrong way. Phrase it kindly, and you won’t be pushing men away. Also, pick your battles or opportunities for constructive criticism.

What are most men looking for in a relationship?

They’re looking for chemistry, someone who finds them attractive, someone who lets their guard down, can laugh together, and appreciates their hobbies. They want someone who shares some interests, listens, and is a friend as well.

How can women get men to pay more attention to them?

Women need to look inside and decide who they are, what they have to offer, and who their best match is. Don’t drag the past along with you, be open minded, learn along the way. Be interesting and interested. Take care of yourself, dress well, be relaxed and fun to be around. If you laugh at his jokes, that’s great. Don’t interview men on dates. Keep the conversations more natural.

What are your final words of advice for anyone who wants to go on their last first date?

Work on yourself first. If you do the work, and you put yourself out  there, it will shine through and you’ll attract the guys you like.
