Learn About Relationships From Your Pet

How do animals help us overcome dating frustration?

Our animals don’t stress over who they meet. For example, when they go to a dog park, they are open to all opportunities and take each interaction as it comes, and then they decide what they think!

How can your pet help you stop attracting the wrong people?

Since our pets are so sure about their needs and wants, they don’t “overthink” their innate and instinctive feelings, and they stay true to themselves. If you go on a date and see a core value that doesn’t match, you don’t need to go on a second date. Come up with three questions that will help clarify if they’re a good fit for you (Maureen reveals the questions in this episode).

How can our pets help us stop relationships from fizzling out?

Do you ever see a bored dog? Not too often. They know how to be spontaneous, and we need to do the same in our relationships. One of the things I suggest is to create a date jar with fun ideas, and use them when you’re getting mundane with your partner. One fun idea is going to a thrift store with a theme and find things that align with that theme. It’s playful and fun.

You’ve coined the term “Truspect”. What’s that?

The term is from a Facebook follower of mine. Trust and Respect are key to all relationships. Animals take their time learning to trust you. It’s earned, some give trust easily, others are reluctant. ‘Trustpect’ is essential in healthy relationships.

What are your final words of advice for anyone who wants to go on their last first date?

If you’re trying to find love, focus on loving yourself first. Do what you love. Hike by yourself, go to dinner by yourself. You are a whole person, and you want to be valued as a whole person before you’re in a relationship. Read, hire a coach, and stay grounded in your worth.
